Paul McCartney blows 'Kiss' to Hollywood
"Kisses on the Bottom,"
named after the lyrics on the album's first track "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter," will showcase the former Beatle on a "deeply personal journey" singing classic American songs that inspired McCartney and bandmate John Lennon when they wrote songs for the Beatles.
"When we grew up, we had my dad's or in John's case, his mother's era that we were listening to, and then when we came to write rock and roll songs, this informed the rock and roll," McCartney told reporters in London on Thursday.
He added the Beatles' "Honey Pie" was one such track "harking back to Hollywood."
The ex-Beatle said he was inspired by some of Hollywood’s best known actors and singers, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and especially Fred Astaire, whose style and voice were a reference for McCartney throughout his career.When we grew up, we had my dad’s or in John’s case, his mother’s era that we were listening to, and then when we came to write rock and roll songs, this informed the rock and roll,” McCartney told reporters in London on Thursday. He added the Beatles’ Honey Pie was one such track “harking back to Hollywood. Fred Astaire was just this fantastic character from that era, he’s so elegant. Musically, his vocal style is very interesting…he had this little voice that I kind of wanted to get near, so I tried that and that became a little bit of a signature with this album,” said McCartney. “It’s this era that I love, it’s a rich era for style, music and intelligent art.”

Man arrested over Hollywood arson spree
POLICE have arrested a man in connection with dozens of suspected arson fires that have destroyed parked cars, scorched buildings and rattled Los Angeles residents over the New Year's weekend.
A German man was arrested on Monday in connection with dozens of suspected arson attacks that destroyed parked cars, scorched buildings and rattled much of Los Angeles over the New Year's weekend.
Harry Burkhart, 24, from Frankfurt was booked for investigation of arson of an inhabited dwelling and was being held without bail. Authorities said they didn't know how long the German national has been in the United States.
Burkhart was arrested earlier in the day because he resembled a "person of interest" captured on surveillance video. He was stopped by a reserve sheriff's deputy in a van being sought by arson investigators, who did not rule out the possibility that others may be involved.
Most of the fires began in cars, though authorities have not said how they were started. Investigators say they are not providing any immediate details because doing so may jeopardise their legal case.
The onslaught of intentionally lit fires has left residents of the Los Angeles area on edge in recent days.
Hundreds of investigators, police officers and firefighters have been dealing with the fires. Police conducted extra patrols through the weekend, and helicopters were on constant lookout for new fires.
On Monday morning, investigators said they were still piecing together the sequence of the blazes, examining more than 100 potential clues and interviewing witnesses.
Police urged residents to check their cars for any signs of tampering and suggested that people take simple precautions such as locking their vehicles and keeping garage and carport lights on at night.
Despite the arrest on Monday, authorities are continuing to urge vigilance.
"We're not resting, and we're not stopping" the extra patrols, Police Commander Andrew Smith said. "If you have lights in your carport area, keep them on tonight."
Some other deliberately set fires were reported on Thursday in Hollywood, and two people were arrested. But police said on Monday that those suspects were not connected with the 52 other blazes.

Snow White and the Huntsman: Movie Review:
In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power. -- (C) Universal Pictures
The Story
Snow White and The Huntsman starts off on a familiar tone. A noble queen, pricked by the thorn of a single blooming rose in her snow covered castle, sees blood drops on the snow and makes a wish: a daughter as white as snow, with blood red lips and ebony black hair. From here the movies gallops, as soon Snow White grows into a beautiful looking teenager, who frolics around the kingdom – which pretty much limited to the castle – with friend and follow-boy William (played by Sam Claffin), saving birds and eating apples. Thereafter, the queen falls ill, dies and a mourning King Magnus (Noah Huntley), who in spite of his sadness marches to face the dark forces, defeats them, chances upon the evil queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) masked as a prisoner, falls in love, gets married and is killed on his wedding day. The kingdom is taken over by Ravenna’s and her evil forces, and Snow White is imprisoned. From here the story takes a curious turn with a few semblance of the fairytale – like the "mirror, mirror on the wall" line, the poisoned apple trick, and the Huntsman who turns protector and helps Snow White avenge her kingdom. Of course, Snow White escapes all dangerous except the apple and wins. How she manages that is the rest of the story, with a few twists.

Apart from the urgent necessity of reminding us that Will Smith is a movie star (and the usual need to wring a few more dollars out of a profitable franchise), Men in Black 3 arrives in the multiplexes of the world with no particular agenda. Which may be part of the reason it turns out to be so much fun. You don’t need to study up on the previous installments or master a body of bogus fanboy lore to enjoy this movie for the breezy pop throwaway it is. Your expectations may be pleasantly low, and you may therefore be pleasantly surprised when they are exceeded.
The first Men in Black movie, a playful adaptation of Lowell Cunningham’s offbeat comic books, was released 15 years ago, and a decade has gone by since the sequel — called Men in Black 2 and every bit as memorable as its name — cashed in big and skyrocketed into the realm of bloated, tongue-in-cheek, special-effects-heavy spectacle. No. 3, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld from a script by Etan Cohen, starts out somewhat dispiritingly in that tapped-out vein, with a barrage of state-of-the-art weaponry, meticulously rendered slime and jokes that seem more than a little stale. There are no talking dogs and not too many references to the earlier installments.
